We went to the Catskills with friends.

Mark and I got married a month ago. We were surrounded by so much warmth and joy from family and friends that rain couldn't dampen the beauty, fun, or happiness of the day. We are lucky in many ways. I love him very much. 📷: @bassosweddings

Japan, day 13: on the last day of our honeymoon, we ate pizza for breakfast, played video games at a 7-story arcade in Akihibara (electronic town), ate ramen on Ramen Street for lunch, went to the Imperial Palace until we realized we'd be walking on an asphalt road that felt like it led nowhere the entire time, and ended our trip with the richest black sesame ice cream that almost made us miss our flight.

Japan, day 12: we said bye to Yakushima and the staff at Sankara, headed back to Tokyo, got a drink at our hotel before aimlessly walking around, and ended up at our dinner at Sushi Masuda, where the sushi was delicate and delicious.

Japan, day 11: we did nothing except swim in the rain, get massages, eat, and watch Always Be My Maybe

Japan, day 10, afternoon: After trekking in the mountains, we drove around the island and saw deer and monkeys (the only wild animals on the entire island), saw two waterfalls, bathed at a sento (where an older woman showed me what to do using smiles and gestures), saw an open onsen at low tide, visited Nagata beach though sea turtles only come at night, and visited the island's oldest shrine. Yakushima is pretty rainy but verdant, lush, and some parts magical.

Japan, day 10, morning: we hiked through Shiratani-Unsuikyo, 600m high into Yakushima's mountains, where the moss (Yakushima has 650 types) covers rocks and trees, second-generation cedars grow alongside first generation 1000+- and 2-year-old cedars, and the water flows through the forest. The moss forest here was the inspiration for Miyazaki's Mononoke forest. It was so beautiful.

Japan, day 10: We left the beautiful Shiraume and arrived at Sankara, where the entire staff greeted us on arrival. The Yakushima airport reminds me of the Lanikai airport and the roads to our hotel remind me of various parts of Hawaii. We had a French dinner at the hotel restaurant and also ate bread(!). The staff here has made us feel so attended to and special on our honeymoon. We even got towel swans in our room.

Feeling like a prince :
My friend Filipinos are very courteous to me when I visited.
They all bowed their head whenever they came across me.
Then I noticed they got their heads bowed because they are texting.
